Quincy High Defeats Greenville in Feather River League Opener

The Quincy High Trojan basketball team never let up against an out-manned Greenville High squad en route to a 70-20 victory in the conference opener for both teams Tuesday evening (1/06).

Quincy built a 33-10 halftime lead and kept the gas on in the final two quarters to record the 50 point victory. Greenville is limited to just six players in uniform, one of whom, just joined the team in recent days.                 

Quincy is now 4-6 on the season, 1-0 in Feather River League play. The loss drops the Indians to 1-8, 0-1 in league.

Quincy will next face Live Oak High School in the East Nicholas tournament, Thursday, Jan. 8th, while Greenville will be at home to face Herlong, Friday, Jan. 9th.

Herlong Lady Vikings Shake Off Slow Start to Defeat Surprise Valley

The Herlong High Lady Vikings basketball team showed early signs of the lengthy holiday lay-off at home Tuesday (1/06) against visiting Surprise Valley High School.  

After a sluggish first half, Herlong led just 16-11, but the Lady Vikings came out of the locker-room and out-scored Surprise Valley 22-12 in the second half for a 38-23 victory.

Herlong’s Reanna Retterath led all scorers with 18 points. Andrea “Peanut” Owen had 12 points and Tina Berry chipped in with eight points to round out the Herlong scoring. The win improves the Lady Vikings to 5-5 on the year.

The Herlong ladies will be in Greenville, Friday, Jan. 9th.

Durham High School Gets Best of Grizzlies the Second Time Around

The Lassen High Grizzly basketball team opened the season with a resounding 81-56 victory over the Durham Trojans in the “Cave”. Tuesday night (1/06) Durham returned the favor on their home floor.

Durham was able to slow the up-tempo Lassen offense and come away with a 64-52 victory. The Grizzlies are now 8-4 on the season. Lassen will travel to Oroville High School for tournament play beginning Thursday, Jan. 8th. Time and opponent to be announced.

Lady Grizzlies Drop Non-Conference Game in Durham

The Lassen High Lady Grizzly basketball team returned to the court for the first time in over three weeks (Tue. 1/06) with a non -conference game at Durham High School.

Lassen could not quite shake the holiday rust, dropping a 50-43 decision to the home team Trojan ladies. The loss evens the Lassen ladies record at 4-4. The Lady Grizzlies next, open tournament play at West Valley High School. Lassen will face Sutter High, Thursday, Jan. 8th. at 6:00 p.m.

Lassen High Soccer Teams Split Conference Openers

The Lassen Grizzly soccer teams opened Northern Athletic League play (Tue. 1/06) with a split of their two games at Corning High School.

The Lady Grizzlies picked up their second win of the year with a 4-0 shut-out of the Cardinals. The Lassen ladies are now 2-1-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play. 

The Grizzly boys jumped on top of Corning 1-0 on a Gabriel Galvez goal early in the match, but Corning scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 victory. The loss drops the young Grizzlies to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NAL.

Both Lassen squads will take to the pitch, Thursday, Jan. 8th, at Riverside Park as the Grizzlies host NAL rival West Valley High. Games begin at 3:00 p.m.
