Lassen College Basketball Splits Pair at Siskiyous
The Lassen College men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to College of the Siskiyous, Saturday night, (1/17) for a Golden Valley Conference showdown with the Screamin’ Eagles.
In the evenings opener, the Lady Cougars used a barrage of three-pointers to come from behind and defeat Siskiyous, 95-87. Lassen’s Lorena Torres finished the night with a team high 26 points. She was six for six from behind the arc. The Lady Cougars trailed 46-42 at halftime. “We battled all the way down to the wire,” said Lassen head coach Mark Naraeu, “and we just pulled it out.” Savannah Carlo knocked down 18 points for the Lassen ladies, with Brittany Hill adding 16 points. Hill buried five three-pointers. Dani Case had 13 points and Jessica Nolan scored 11 points. Lassen hit 13 three-pointers on the night. The win pushed Lassen’s overall record to 12-9. The Lady Cougars are 2-0 in conference play.
It was another wild affair in the men’s game but the visiting Cougars came up just short, dropping an 87-84 decision to Siskiyous. The Lassen men are now 0-2 in the GVC.
Both Cougar squads return home, Wednesday, Jan. 21st, to take on the Butte Roadrunners. Action tips off at 5:30 p.m. with the Lady Cougars, followed by the men’s game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
