Monday Morning Sports Wrap

We’ve got a little bit of everything from this past weekend, so here we go in no particular order.

High School Basketball (Boys) (2/06)

Yreka – 57

Lassen – 53

The Grizzlies inability to hit free throws proved costly. Lassen converted just eight of 22 free throw in the four point loss. Miles Maurino led Lassen scorers with 12 points. Loren Rainey finished with 11 points and Brandon Whitestone had 10 points. The loss drops Lassen to 10-11 on the year, 1-5 in the NAL. The Grizzlies will be at home, Tuesday, Feb. 10th,  to face Corning.

High School Basketball (Girls) (2/06)

Yreka – 49

Lassen – 47

The Lady Grizzlies came from behind to lead Yreka 47-45 but the Miners scored the games final four points to earn the win. Lassen missed a three-pointer as time expired. Carlotta Kloppenburg led Lassen with 13 points. The Lassen ladies are now 7-11 and 1-5 in tne NAL. Lassen travels to Corning, Tuesday, Feb. 10th.

Herlong – 31

Providence – 23

The Lady Vikings earned their 13th straight victory. Herlong’s Andrea “Peanut” Owen knocked in ten points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Reanna Retterath had a double-double of her own, with 14 rebounds and ten blocked shots. Herlong is now 14-5 overall, 6-0 in the Pioneer League.

College Basketball (Women) (2/07)

College of the Siskiyous – 94

Lassen College – 66

The Lassen Lady Cougars led at halftime but the wheels fell off in the second half as Siskiyous pulled away for the lopsided victory. Savannah Carlo scored 18 points to lead all Lassen scorers. Oceana Johnson had 13 points while Btittany Hill and Jessica Nolan had 12 and ten points respectively. The Lady Cougars are now 5-2 in the Golden Valley Conference.

College Basketball (Men) (2/07)

Lassen College – 77

College of the Siskiyous – 65

The Cougars bounced back from Wednesday’s (2/04) loss to Feather River College to defeat Siskiyous at the Lassen College Sports Complex, Saturday night, (2/07). Jamier Dodd paced the Cougars with 25 points. Darius Stewart added 19 points and Chris Carlson finished the game with 17 points. Lassen is now 4-3 in the GVC. Both Lassen teams travel to Butte College for a conference double-header, Wednesday, Feb. 11th.

High School Wrestling

Wednesday, (2/04)

Anderson defeats Lassen 48-15 in NAL dual meet.

Individual Lassen Winners

121 lbs. Derek Dennis – win by pin.

127 lbs. Byron Treece – wins 8-5 decision.

132 lbs. Kyle Gibson – wins 11-4 decision.

137 lbs. Taft Memmott – wins 4-2 decision.

JV Results

130 lbs. Dan Pudlicki – win by pin.

135 lbs. Zach Davis – win by pin.

160 lbs. Jake Wolfe – wins 11-4 decision.

North Valley J.V Championship Tournament (2/07)

121 lbs. Derek Dennis – 3rd place.

137 lbs. Zach Davis – 3rd place.

147 lbs. Ben Thomas – 1st place.

The Lassen High wrestlers will host the NAL Championships, Saturday, Feb. 14th. Wrestling begins at noon.
