Lassen Grizzly Basketball Team to Open Playoffs at Paradise

The Lassen Grizzly basketball team will travel to Paradise High School to open the 2009 CIF playoffs.

The Grizzlies earned the #5 seed and will face #4 Paradise, at Paradise. The date has not yet been determined. It may be Thursday, Feb. 26th, or Friday, Feb. 27th, depending on how the rest of the playoff brackets take shape. We will update as the information becomes available.

Lassen finished the regular season, 13-12. Despite a 7-18 record, Paradise was seeded ahead of Lassen. (Don’t get me started on that, and yes I am well versed in the power points system, but…).

Stay tuned for continued playoff seeding updates for both the boys and the girls of the North Section, on The Lassen Sports Network.

Lassen College Softball Team Struggles Against Delta

“You throw the ball, you catch the ball and you hit the ball.” That’s the basic concept of the game according to the quote from the famous baseball movie, “Bull Durham”

Unfortunately, the Lassen College Lady Cougar softball team struggled in all three categories in a 10-0 loss to San Joaquin Delta College, Friday, (2/20). Lassen’s offense was unable to collect a single hit in the loss, and all ten Delta runs were unearned.

Lassen Girls (at Central Valley)

Lassen – 40

“Horrendous free throw shooting by the Grizzlies,” said Lady Grizzly head coach, Paul Moore, “was the difference in the game.” Raeyel Shepherd and Ashley Wilson, each scored ten points for Lassen.

Lassen finishes the season 8-14 overall ( 2-8 in the Northern Athletic League). The playoffs for the ladies open Thursday, Feb. 26th. Time and place will be determined, Saturday, Feb. 21st, when the seeding meeting convenes.

Lassen Boys (at Lassen)

Lassen – 54

Central Valley – 52

Lassen built  a 17 point second half lead and barely held on for the two point victory. The Grizzlies head into the post-season, winner’s of their last three games. Miles Maurino’s steady play and 18 points led Lassen. Brandon Whitestone and Jeremy Bowles had 14 and 13 points respectively for the Grizzlies.

The win pushes Lassen above the .500 mark for the season at 13-12, (4-6 in NAL). The Lassen boys will also find out their opening round playoff opponent, Saturday, Feb. 21st. The Grizzlies will open the playoffs, Friday, Feb. 27th.

Stay tuned to The Lassen Sports Network for complete playoff seedings for all North Section divisions.
