Donkey Basketball Comes to Lassen High School

If you’ve never seen it, you don’t want to miss it. The California Scholastic Federation (CSF) Club of Lassen High School is hosting an evening of Donkey Basketball, Monday, May 4th, at the Lassen High Gymnasium starting at 6:00 p.m.

donkey1Your favorite Lassen High teachers and community members will take on a team of Lassen High students in a battle for donkey basketball supremacy. Presale tickets can be purchased at the Lassen High School Activities Office and at the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce.
The cost for this evening of fun is: $8.00 for adults. $6.00 for grades 7 through 12. $4.00 for kindergarten through 6th grade. Preschoolers and below are free.( Add $1.00 if purchasing tickets at the door). There will be plenty of food, fun and revelry on what will be an evening of good, clean family fun. Funds raised will go to the Lassen High CSF Club.

It’s Time To Get Signed Up For Fall Soccer

Sign-up dates for U-6 through U-19 soccer players interested in playing in the 2009 Susanville Fall soccer season have been announced.

May 2nd
Children’s Fair – @ Lassen County Fairgrounds
May 5th
4:00 – 7:00 p.m. @ Susanville Pizza Factory
May 14th 
4:00 – 7:00 p.m. @ Susanville Pizza Factory
May 20th 
4:00 – 7:00 p.m. @ Janesville Pizza Factory
May 30th
11:00 a.m – 3:00 p.m. @ Susanville Pizza Factory

U-6 through U-19 players are welcome.
Players must be at least four years of age by July 31st, 2009. A county copy of player’s birth certificate must be on file with the league registrar. A small picture must accompany registration forms for players ten years and older. For information about age group prices, or if you have any other questions, call the Lassen Youth Soccer Hotline at (530) 251-5679.

Lassen High Baseball and Softball Games Rained Out

The Lassen High School baseball and softball games, scheduled for Friday, May 1st, have been postponed due to weather.
Both Lassen teams were scheduled to play home games against the Central Valley Falcons. The games have been re-scheduled for Monday, May 4th. The Grizzly baseball game will start at 3:15 p.m. at Memorial Park. The Lassen High ladies (19-9-2) will begin at 3:15 p.m. at the Lassen College Softball Complex.
Monday’s baseball game will be the final regular season contest for Lassen, (9-11).

Random Thoughts, Dear Diary, You Pick a Name…

headbackSo, here we go. I’ve had numerous requests to do more column type writing here on Lassen Sports Network. Thank you for the comments, they are greatly appreciated and we will work harder.
Let me be clear, my style of writing is very “three-dottish,” mostly because my attention span sometimes lacks. I used to do some writing for the local paper and my column was, in essence, random notes from what my beautiful bride refers to as “my diary.” It’s actually a yellow legal notepad so it was oft times, mockingly referred to as “Dear Diary.”
My sister came up with “Blackwood’s Random Points of Ponderance” for a name. What say you ? (Hey Blackwood shut up doesn’t count). Anyway. I had a couple of comments that I wanted to pass along…
If you have a chance, shake the hand of a Lassen College baseball player and/or coach. I know you see an 8-22 record for the Cougars. What you may not see, is the fact that as recently as August, there was, in essence, no Lassen College baseball program. Lady Grizzlies Win, Tied for First in the NAL

In a battle for the top spot in the Northern Athletic League, the Lassen High Lady Grizzly softball team shut out rival West Valley, Thursday, (4/30) at the Lassen College Softball Complex. The win pulls Lassen into a first place tie with the Eagles.

Lassen – 3
West Valley – 0
Ashley Novosad
pitched a complete game for Lassen. “Ashley was very instrumental in the victory.” Said Lassen head coach Paul Moore. “She pitched a great game for us.” Mariah Hicks was 2 x 2 with an RBI while Kylie Polan and Keli Williams each drove in a run. “It was definitely a playoff atmosphere,” added Moore.
Lassen is 19-9-2 on the season and are now tied with West Valley atop the NAL at 6-1 (the teams split there two regular season meetings). Lassen is scheduled to play Central Valley, Friday, May 1st, at the Lassen College Softball Complex.

Cougars End Season With a Split

The Lassen College baseball team wrapped up the 2009 season, Thursday, (4/30) with a doubleheader split with the Shasta College Knights at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca. 

Game 1

Shasta – 20
Lassen – 8
Lassen’s Zach Garcia was 3 x 3 with a home run and 3 RBI.

Game 2

Lassen – 9
Shasta – 8
Former Lassen High ace, Blake Nahlen went seven innings to earn the win. First baseman Mike Hardy was 2 x 4 with three RBI and Brett Workman drove in two Lassen runs. 
Lassen finishes the season with a 9-23 record while the Knights first game win clinched second place in the Golden Valley Conference behind Feather River College.
