Lassen High Volleyball Drops Hard Fought Match To Central Valley

Story submitted by Lassen head coach, Jeff Morrish
We played Central Valley High School, Thursday (10/15), and went up against the best player in the league, in Central Valley’s Brie Mackie, and the second place team.
The varsity held their own in an exciting contest. Each game was close and it was our best effort of the season. The scores were; 21-25, 20-25, 20-25. Lassen had 22 kills and blocked very well, finishing with 11 blocks.
Carlotta Kloppenberg had a great night with 12 digs, 11 for 11 serving, and 3 kills. Amanda Nelson had 5 kills and 5 blocks. Kendall Sears had 6 kills, three aces, and 4 blocks. Jocelyn Lapthorne had 3 kills and  2 blocks. Lassen is 1-4 after the first half of play.
The Lassen jv lost in three games 19-25, 25-23 , 10-15. Lassen is 2-3 in league play.
The Grizzly freshmen lost  25-23, 25-27, 8-15. We are 3-2 in league.
We start the second half with Yreka, at home on Thursday night, October 22nd.

Pizza Factory NASCAR Pool Winner for October 11th

WOW! There’s no such thing as perfection, but if there were, David Trussell, this weeks Pizza Factory NASCAR pool winner would be awfully close to attaining it. Trussell picked the top five finishers in the Pepsi 500 (10/11). Here are Trussel’s picks.
1. Jimmie Johnson – 1 pt (-10 points for picking the winner)
2. Tony Stewart – 5 pts
3. Mark Martin – 4 pts
4. Juan Montoya – 3 pts
5. Jeff Gordon – 2 pts
Trussel’s total of five points is the lowest possible total for the Pizza Factory NASCAR pool. Trussel wins an extra-large two topping pizza from the Pizza Factory. Points are awarded on where the drivers you pick actually finish the race, so the object is to have the fewest points possible.
Jimmie Johnson was the winner of the Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana (Ca.)
The next NASCAR event is the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, October 17th. Get your picks in before the race begins.

Lassen Field Hockey Exacts Revenge on Chico

After dropping a 7-3 decision to Chico High School earlier in the year, the Lassen High Grizzly field hockey team gained a measure of revenge with a shut out victory over the visiting Panthers, Wednesday, (10/14).
Lassen – 2
Chico – 0
Chelsea Fry
scored Lassen’s first goal less than .30 seconds into the game. Haylee Shaffer would add Lassen’s second goal shortly before the end of the first half. Lassen goalie, Kaelie Pena’s, five saves would secure the shutout.
Lassen’s Molly West, was carried off the field by head coach Dorinda Shaffer in the first half after taking a severe blow to the right knee-cap, but would return to action in the second half.
That’s why we call them, ”Chix with Stix,” they’re tough…
Lassen improves to 8-3 on the season.
The Lassen junior varsity Grizzlies lost 2-1 in a “flick-off”
