Feather River College Falls To Modesto

My apologies for the delay in reporting. Got a little way-layed coming back from Modesto. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-3 on the season with Saturday’s loss to Modesto Junior College.

We’ve been told by Feather River athletic director Merle Trueblood, that the the injury suffered by Feather River quarterback, Matt Koman, was a broken fibula, a broken tibia and a dislocated ankle. Koman is finished for the season.
FRC next plays, Saturday, October 3rd, at home against Merced. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (PST). Hear the action, live right here on Lassen Sports Network.com.

Feather River College Thumps Yuba For First Win

featherrivercollegelogoThe Feather River College football team picked up it’s first win of the 2009 season, Saturday (9-19), with a convincing win over the Yuba College 49ers. Feather River’s defense pitched a shutout and allowed just 77 yards of total offense to the visiting 49ers. Quarterback Matt Koman came of the bench to ignite the Feather River offense.

The Feather River College baseball team lost it’s first Golden Valley Conference baseball game of the season in the opener of a three game series with Shasta College.

Feather River College Continues Dominance of GVC

The Feather River College baseball team improved to 12-0 in Golden Valley Conference play with a 17-6 thumping of Butte College, Wednesday, (3/25).

The Golden Eagles jumped on Butte early, building an 11-2 lead after just three innings. Scott Greene (6-0) went seven innings to earn the win. Ryan Giacomini was 3 for 5 with four RBI. Andy Quiring finished the day 2 for 4 with two runs driven in. Feather River is now 23-2 for the season. The series moves to Quincy for a doubleheader Saturday, March 28th.

Monday Morning Weekend Update

Lots of local baseball and softball, Saturday, (3/21) and for better or worse (weather-wise), most of it was played here in Susanville. Here are the reports from a cold blustery day in the ‘ville.

Lassen’s Kylie Polan hit a home run. Natalie Yonan was 2 x 2.

Polan had three hits to lead the Grizzlies.
Lassen’s Jennifer Williams and Ashley Novasad were both selected to the All-Tournament team. Lassen wraps up the tournament with a season record of 6-4-2. The Grizzlies travel to Sparks (Nv.) High School for a doubleheader, Tuesday, March 24.
NOTE: We’ve got to come up with a better name for the tournament before next years event.

Lassen College and Feather River Split GVC Hoops Doubleheader

The Lassen College Lady Cougars downed Feather River College 69-61 Wednesday, (2/04) to maintain a first place tie in the Golden Valley Conference basketball standings. Meanwhile the Cougar men saw their three game GVC winning streak snapped following an 86-79 loss to the Golden Eagles.

Jessica Nolan poured in 29 points as the Lassen ladies overcame an early 12 point deficit to defeat Feather River. The Lady Cougars led just 34-32 at halftime but pulled away in the second half for the eight point win. Savannah Carlo had 16 points, with Brittany Hill chipping in 14 points for the Lady Cougars. Lassen improves to 5-1 in the GVC, tied with Shasta College atop the conference standings.

Feather River’s 86-79 victory over the Lassen men snapped the Cougars winning streak at three games and dropped the Cougars to 3-3 in GVC play. The win pushes Feather River to 5-1 in the Golden Valley Conference.

Raucous Night of Basketball at Lassen College as Cougars Host Feather River in GVC Opener

Harsh feelings between Lassen College and Feather River College fans spilled onto the floor near the conclusion of the second game of the GVC hoops double-header between the rival schools, Wednesday night, (1/14) at the Lassen College Sports Complex.

In the night’s first game, the Lassen College Lady Cougars shook off a sluggish offensive start to pull away from Feather River for a 71-55 win. Lorena Torres hit a three pointer as time expired in the first half to give Lassen a 37-29 lead at the break. Australian stand-out Jessica Nolan poured in 14 of her game high 23 points in the second half to help the Lady Cougars pull away from Feather River and earn the 16 point victory. “We played pretty well defensively.” Said Lassen head coach Mark Naraeu, “We played hard and hustled all night.” Lassen’s Oceana Johnson, Julissa Reynoso and Savannah Carlo each scored 12 points as the Lady Cougars opened the conference schedule with a win.

In the night cap, the Golden Eagles of Feather River built a double digit lead in the first half and were able to with stand a late Lassen charge, holding off the Cougars for a 98-87 victory.
