Bronco Babe’s Rebuttal: (To a previous conversation)
I am smarter than you, and can still shoot your eyeballs out in basketball! Geez, give a guy his own show and he has delusions of grandeur!
Scott B. - OK, so you actually attended more classes than I did and I honestly can’t argue the fact that you can shoot my “eyeballs out”, In Horse! But I play defense… And let us not forget, in high school, you loved the three point shot, and it didn’t even exist!.. And it’s all those, never played, but I’m great in fantasy football and I can recite the Baseball Encyclopedia, that have visions of grandeur.

Bronco Babe: I’ve apologized enough for your unfortunate fall off the slide in Bend, Ore. I had no idea it would cause permanent damage.
Scott B. - My big sister pushed me over the side of one of those giant aluminum park slides, from the top! while we were on a family vacation… Real “Team Player!” (Had to be at least a 100 foot drop, but I shook it off).

Random Thoughts:

Bronco Babe: Very cool that Coach St. Jacques played on the Blue Turf. What team did he play for?
Scott B. – Cal State Fullerton – 3033 yards passing 1980-81. (Not all on the Blue Turf).

Bronco Babe: Didn’t you say there was a young athlete at Lassen High that Boise State was interested in? You have any follow up for us about that?
Scott B - I do, but not for publication… It’s probably scary to all involved that I’m his mentor for his Senior Project… Thank goodness we didn’t have Sr. Projects in high school, or did we?

Bronco Babe: I do have some football observations today. One thing that frustrates me no end when I watch has to do with the new helmet to helmet calls that get made. Yes, there are plenty that are legitimate, but I think they’re over vigilante about the rule as well. I’ve seen so many great hits where the player leads with his shoulder and delivers a stunning hit or stop, but because of changes in angles and general follow through once a hit is made, the helmets clash and then the yellow flag is thrown.
Scott B. - I’ve said a billion times, we continue to “wussify” the game, (I’m paraphrasing my thoughts there), thanks in part to the previously mentioned folks who never played, or hit, let alone got hit and now cater to a mamby-pamby generation… Even Gene Washington (SF 49ers, 1969-1977), who hands out (or handed out) the punishments for the NFL, has been brainwashed… Chris Collinsworth however, is a whole ‘nother story…

Bronco Babe: Explain to me, then, why a personal foul, helmet to helmet call isn’t made on every play from scrimmage when the linemen all clash? I realize that this is ludicrous, but come on! Let them play, and don’t make eunuchs of the linebackers and backfield defenders.

A couple of weeks ago while watching a game, a personal foul was called against the team that Iowa was playing. It was a perfectly legitimate play, but the official called a “high hit.” What?! The hit was smack in the middle of the chest. We’ve got low hits, we’ve got high hits, can’t hit helmets, even slightly, and tripping, of course, is just cheap. So where can they hit? My husband and I had fun calling all of the high hits that should have been called throughout the rest of the games that day. “OOOH LOOK! That was a HIGH HIT!”

I’ve mentioned it before, but add the above with protecting the QBs so heavily, and we might as well put football players in pink tutus. In the words of Dan Hawkins, “It’s Division I football! It ain’t intramural!” I think I could accept these calls more gracefully if the officials were at all consistant about them.
Scott B.- If you’re counting on officials to figure it out (regardless of the sport), you’re the one that’s delusional… Dirty is dirty. Unfortunate instances are just that, unfortunate, and shall forever be a part of sport, but a great hit is a great hit… How much money does the NFL make putting out videos of “great hits” that make millions of dollars, but they never make mention of the fact that the dude was fined $50,000 for the hit(s) that they are showcasing. Isn’t that just a tiny bit disingenuous? Not to mention, double-dipping… I thought Dan Hawkins was coaching intramural football…

Bronco Babe: BTW, did you see and hear that rant from the Miami of Ohio basketball coach after losing an 18 point lead and the game to Kentucky? Priceless.
Scott B. -I missed it, but I’ll say this about that. Calipari has Kentucky hoops in trouble within 5 years…

Bronco Babe: Good luck Lassen against Anderson. Anyone who has a coach who played on the Blue Field has got my support.
Scott B. – And to think she used to be a tried and true Oklahoma Sooner fan, like her smarter little brother.

If Stanford wins out, which gives them an impressive resume, no one is interested in a second tier Pac 10 team as a BCS at large team. What? What is Oklahoma State if not a second tier Big 12 team?? There impressive wins would be a down Oklahoma and Georgia squad? Unless the pac 10 is in the National Championship game, they are never invited as an at large to any BCS Bowl Game because they don’t travel well. I tend to believe that Stanford would travel pretty well to the Fiesta Bowl. Boise traveled very well when they went, and Stanford has a much larger alumni base than a school that has only been a 4 year college for 32 years.

There will be two Big 10 teams invited. Isn’t that slightly nauseating?

BSU has Central Michigan in the Motor City Bowl, or the Humanitarian Bowl against the third or fourth place Mt. West team to look forward to. I think Central Michigan is a good team, but with BSU’s record against the Mt West, especially on their home field? Ick.

No one believes that the BCS is designed to give deserving teams their shot at big bowls; I don’t think they necessarily line up the two best teams for the National Championship with their subjective criteria. But do they have to be so obvious about it?

We’re not going to get a play-off system, they seem clear about that. However, could we get rid of all the bowl affiliations with the conferences? Why is it more impressive to see a fourth or fifth place Big Ten team in a notable bowl than an undefeated 6th or 7th nationally ranked team–this ranking gained through their own system and voting?

It’s all about the Benjamin’s…no one doubts this. But what are the other players from the 5 non-BCS divisions playing for, and why aren’t they on the same playing field within the same system?

That is my rant for the day.

I’ll get back to baking my cookies.

We here at Lassen Sports Network.com love to hear from our listeners and visitors. This submission comes from my sister in Boise, Idaho. She’s a big time Boise State Bronco fan.

What’s happening with the Niners?
Scott’s Response: They’re headed in the right direction, but right now, they’re just good enough to lose.

This week is the Idaho game with BSU…big rivalry. Wouldn’t be surprised if we lost if this team can’t show more consistancy. I’m not being negative, just realistic. Our team seems to take time off in a game. Coach even says he hasn’t gotten a bead on this team yet.

Explain to me how USC can get pummeled by Oregon, humiliated, really. Then they lose, and USC impresses all with a squeaker against ASU. They have the same records, however, they have the head to head. And USC is ahead of Oregon in the polls by 4-6 spots? I understand they have all this “talent,” but they are not a good team yet.

Are you happy that Notre Dame lost to Navy? (Indeed I am) I personally enjoyed the hell out of that game. Always have a soft spot for the armed forces teams. Exactly how many home games does ND have?!

I’m getting tickets to go to the Nevada game in a couple of weeks. It’s at 8:15 p.m., so I can go. I’d really love it if our defense could show up, but I’m not holding my breath against the #1 running offense. Have a feeling it will be a shoot-out like it was the last time the game was here.

Your big sis.
