Herlong Ladies Return To Action Against Loyalton

The Herlong High School Lady Viking basketball team returned to action, Tuesday, (1/26) at home against the Loyalton Grizzlies.
Final Score
Loyalton – 46
Herlong – 32
Herlong head coach, Ken Berry recaps the night:
After 2 weeks of canceled games we finally got on the court against an opponent, (non-league game), a formidable opponent at that. I new this would be a tough game for us considering this was mostly the same Loyalton team we split with last year.
I was pleased at the half being down by only 9 after shooting very poorly.
In the third we fell behing by 18 and then went on a 10 to 0 run and got within 8. But that would be as close as we could get.
We shot 10 of 45 from the field and 1 of 10 from 3pt range.
Tina Berry led the way with 17 pts and 5 steals, Angelique (Pooh) Owen, 7 pts and Rayann Harryman led the team in rebounds with 10.
We have a league game on Friday, (1/29) against Princeton at home.

Herlong Ladies Win Gerlach Tournament

Story Submitted

The Herlong High Lady Viking basketball team competed in tournament action this weekend (12/11-12).
Friday’s Game
Herlong – 27
Sierra Lutheran -26
Saturday’s Game
Herlong – 44
Gerlach – 17
The first game of the Tourney was a nail biter as you can see. Sierra Lutheran brought an intense man defense that was relentless all night. Sierra Lutheran had the ball with 10 seconds left and they were in the bonus, so we couldn’t afford a foul. Rachel Bania anticipated a pass with a game saving steal as time ran out.
In the Championship game it was all Herlong as the girls beat Gerlach 44 to 17 to take the first place trophy at the Gerlach Invitational.
Tina Berry was named MVP with 24 pts and 13 assists and Angelique (Pooh) Owen was selected to the All-Tourney team, she had 24 pts and 15 rebounds.
Other notables were Rachael Silva with 12 steals and 11 pts in the tourney. Rayann Harryman also had 12 rebounds and played relentless defense.
