Lassen College Cougars End Losing Skid

The Lassen College Cougar baseball team snapped their six game losing streak with a win over College of the Siskiyous, Wednesday, (4/01) in Weed, Ca.

Lassen – 14
Siskiyous – 12
Danny Bright 
grinded out 8 1/3 innings to earn his first college victory. Lassen scored seven runs in the eighth inning to take the lead and then hung on for the two run win. The Cougar win moves Lassen to 6-10 in the Golden Valley Conference with a doubleheader at Siskiyous scheduled for Saturday, April 4th. Lassen’s Zach Garcia recorded the final two outs of the game to earn the save.

Lassen finishes the tournament with two wins and three losses and are now 10-8-2 on the season. The Lassen ladies open Northern Athletic League play, Tuesday, March 31st, at Anderson High School.

Lassen Cougars Fall One Inning Short Against Shasta

The Lassen College baseball team was three outs away from securing a Golden Valley Conference victory over Shasta College, Wednesday, (3/25) at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca.

The Cougars took a 3-1 lead into the top of the ninth inning, but the visiting Knights peppered the Lassen bullpen for seven runs and Shasta would defeat the struggling Cougars, 8-3. The loss is the fourth straight suffered by Lassen.
The two teams will resume the three game series, Saturday, March 28th, at Shasta College in Redding, Ca.

Monday Morning Weekend Update

Lots of local baseball and softball, Saturday, (3/21) and for better or worse (weather-wise), most of it was played here in Susanville. Here are the reports from a cold blustery day in the ‘ville. 

Lassen High Varsity Softball Tournament
(3/21) at Riverside Park

Game 1

Lassen – 6
Fernley – 5
Lassen’s Kylie Polan hit a home run. Natalie Yonan was 2 x 2.

Game 2
(3/21) at Riverside Park (Tournament Semi-final)

Chico – 5
Lassen – 3
Polan had three hits to lead the Grizzlies.
Lassen’s Jennifer Williams and Ashley Novasad were both selected to the All-Tournament team. Lassen wraps up the tournament with a season record of 6-4-2. The Grizzlies travel to Sparks (Nv.) High School for a doubleheader, Tuesday, March 24.
NOTE: We’ve got to come up with a better name for the tournament before next years event.

We’re Back, Sort Of…

Our apologies for the last few days, the sports director here at the Lassen Sports Network now has certain body parts that are held together with plates, rods and screws.
Many thanks to the fine folks at Banner-Lassen Medical Center for their fine care and service, to a mostly cranky client. We hope to be back on the air with your UPS Store-96.3 Jack FM Sports Report, Monday, March 23rd at 6:50 a.m. Enough about that, let’s get you to some sports.

Lassen’s Mariah Hicks= 2 x 3, Keli Williams= 2 RBI.
The Grizzlies scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score but Red Bluff scored a single run in the eighth to win it. Lassen is now 4-1-2 on the season.
The Grizzlies host the Lassen High Varsity Tournament that begins this morning, Friday, (3/20). The tournament features Lassen and nine visiting schools. Games will be played at the Lassen College Softball Complex and at both Riverside Park fields. Lassen’s first game is scheduled  for 10:45 a.m. at Lassen College against Silver Sage H.S. Cougars Blast Redwoods in Series Finale

An early start time did not faze the Lassen College baseball team Sunday, (3/15) as the Cougars pounded out 16 hits in defeating College of the Redwoods in the final game of a three game series. 

Lassen – 14

Lassen’s Zach Garcia and Daveron Ross each hit home runs, the first  homers of the year for the Cougars. The win pushes Lassen’s season record to 5-6, (5-4 in the Golden Valley Conference). “The kids responded well after Saturdays loss.” Said Lassen head coach Cort Cortez.
The game started 45 minutes earlier than scheduled, as the teams looked to avoid the coming rains.
Lassen will next face first place Feather River College, Wednesday, March 18th, in Quincy. The two teams will return to Memorial Park for a March 21st, doubleheader.

Lassen-Redwoods Finale Start Time Moved Up

The final game of the Golden Valley Conference baseball series between Lassen College and College of the Redwoods has been moved up to 11:15 a.m. at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca. today, (3/15). The move was made to try to avoid expected rain showers forecast for later today. The two teams split a doubleheader yesterday at Lassen’s home field.

Lassen Drops Nightcap to Redwoods

The Lassen College Cougar baseball team dropped the second game of Saturdays, (3/14) doubleheader to College of the Redwoods.

Lassen – 3
LP- Danny Bright
Lassen drops to 4-4 in Golden Valley Conference play. The series finale will be played Sunday, (3/15) at Memorial Park at 12:00 p.m.

Cougars Win Series Opener

The Lassen College Cougars won the opening game of their three game Golden Valley Conference baseball series with College of the Redwoods. (3/14)

Lassen now 4-3 in GVC play.
Game two of doubleheader scheduled to start at 2:35 p.m. at Memorial Park.

Lassen-Redwoods Baseball Series Moved to Saturday & Sunday

The Golden Valley Conference baseball series between Lassen College and College of the Redwoods, scheduled to be played Friday (3/13) and Saturday (3/14) at Memorial Park, has been delayed one day to allow the field to dry out.
The two teams will now play a doubleheader Saturday with the series finale to be played Sunday (2/15). Start time for both days is 12:00 p.m. The Cougars are currently 3-5 (3-3 in the GVC), while Redwoods is 1-14, (0-5).
