Yonan Helps Starz Earn Title

The Chico Starz 18 and under softball team captured the Nor Cal Championship over the weekend for it’s first title in program history!
Lassen High standout, Natalie Yonan was 3-12 over the event and played outstanding defense at second base as the Starz went 4-0 over the weekend.
The victory earns the Starz a return trip to the 18 and under Nationals to be held August 1-8 in Hemet, California.

Grizzlies Eliminated From Playoffs

The Lassen High School baseball team saw it’s season come to an end with a second round loss to Winters in the NSCIF Division II playoffs (5/18).  
Final Score
Winters – 6
Lassen – 5
The home town Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a trip to the section finals, (Saturday, May 22nd, vs. Central Valley).
Lassen ends the 2010 season with a record of 15-10.

LHS Softball Team Advances to Section Semi-Finals

The Lassen High School softball team advanced to the NSCIF Division IV, semi-final game with an opening round playoff victory over Winters High School, (5/18).

Senior, Ashley Novosad, allowed just four hits while striking out eight Winter’s batters to earn the win.
Lassen’s Taylor Waddel was 2×3 with a two RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning, that gave the Grizzlies a 5-2 lead. Kaelie Pena was 1×3 with two RBI. Lassen’s leading hitter, sophomore, Natalie Yonan (.433 batting average) was 2×3.
Lassen, (21-9, #2 seed) will next face Sutter High School, (15-5, #3) Thursday, May 20th, at the Lassen College Softball Complex. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Sutter beat Mt. Shasta Tuesday.
Lassen defeated Sutter 3-1 in the Lindhurst Tournament (4/02) earlier this season.

For the second year in a row, Coaches John Westfall and Geoff Cook have guided the Lassen High JV baseball team to the Northern Athletic League title.
The Grizzlies had a league record of 9-1, (14-4 overall).
The team had a great season, scoring 92 runs, while allowing only 25 runs in league play. Lassen had a conference best 2.55 ERA with 126 strikeouts. The pitching staff had five shutouts on the year.
The team’s overall batting average was .354, with an on-base percentage of .434.

For the second year in a row, Coaches John Westfall and Geoff Cook have guided the Lassen High JV baseball team to the Northern Athletic League title.
The Grizzlies had a league record of 9-1, (14-4 overall).
The team had a great season, scoring 92 runs, while allowing only 25 runs in league play. Lassen had a conference best 2.55 ERA with 126 strikeouts. The pitching staff had five shutouts on the year.
The team’s overall batting average was .354, with an on-base percentage of .434.

Lassen High Baseball Team Advances to Round Two of Playoffs, LHS Softball Team Earns #2 Seed

The Lassen Grizzly baseball team moved into the second round of the NSCIF Division II playoffs with a 5-2 win over Wheatland High School, Friday, (5/14) in Susanville. Lassen, (15-9, #4 seed) will next face top ranked Winters High School (20-4), Tuesday, May 18th, in Winters.

The Lassen High softball team, (20-9, #2) opens the playoffs, Tuesday, May 18th, at home against Winters High School (13-8, #7). The Lassen ladies ended the regular season on a five game winning streak, including a doubleheader sweep of Corning, Thursday (5/13) on the final day of the regular season.

We’re Back, Finally… Lassen Softball Teams Triumph at Central Valley While Grizzly Baseball Team Falls

Thank you for your patience (most of you anyway). Viral infections (computer) and every-day, real-life work, have put Lassen Sports Network.com a few days behind. Thanks to those who continue to provide us with information in the timeliest fashion-as always… OBTW-Yes we knew about Ben Wade’s potential hiring as men’s soccer coach at Lassen College, duhhhh…

The Lassen High School baseball and softball teams traveled to Central Valley High School for Northern Athletic League competition with the home town Falcons, Thursday,(5/06).
Final Score
Lassen – 2
Central Valley – 1
Becky McConnel
drove in the game-winning run to make a winner of Ashley Novosad. Haylee Shaffer was 3×4 with Kelli Williams adding two hits for the Grizzlies.
Lassen improves to 17-9, (5-2 NAL) and will close out the regular season with three games at home. Lassen will play host to the Yreka Miners, Tuesday, May 11th, and then wrap up the NAL schedule with a doubleheader against Corning, Thursday May 13th.

LHS Baseball & Softball Games Rained Out

Tuesday’s (4/27) scheduled Northern Athletic League baseball and softball games between Lassen High School and Corning High, have been postponed due to inclement weather.
Both Lassen squads were scheduled to travel to Corning for their respective match-ups. No make-up dates have been formally announced at this time.
The next scheduled games for both Lassen teams are Friday, April 30th, at home against West Valley High School.

The Lassen softball team is currently 15-8 (3-1 NAL), while the Grizzly baseball team is 12-7 (3-3).

Lassen High Baseball & Softball Teams Road Warriors in Yreka – Thursday’s Scores Too

The Lassen High School baseball and softball teams played Northern Athletic League games on consecutive days, facing Central Valley in a make-up game at home, Thursday (4/22), then traveling to Yreka, Friday (4/23).

pitched a complete game three-hitter to earn her 11th win of the year. Lassen’s leading hitter, Natalie Yonan (.451 batting average), was 2 for 4, with an RBI. Becky McConnel also drove in a run for Lassen.

Yonan was 4 for 4, including a triple, double and two RBI. Haylee Shaffer drove in three runs on an 3 for 4 day at the plate. McConnel scored three Lassen runs and Grizzly catcher, Kaelie Pena was 2 for 4 with a double and a run driven in.
Lassen (15-8, 3-1 NAL) resumes conference play, Tuesday, April 27th, at Corning High School (7-4-1, 2-0 NAL).

Lassen High Baseball & Softball Postponed

Tuesday’s Northern Athletic League baseball and softball games, between Lassen High School and Central Valley High School have been postponed due to the inclement weather in northern California.
All four games, (varsity & junior varsity for both sports) have been resceduled for Thursday, April 22nd, in Susanville. According to sources from Lassen High School, if the games cannot be played on Thursday, they will be moved to Monday, April 26th.
