Simon Honored for Second Time This Season

djFormer Lassen High and Lassen College pitcher, and current New Mexico State University stand-out, Daniel (DJ) Simon earned Western Athletic League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of May 11-17.
Simon, a junior, threw seven shut-out innings to earn his first complete game victory of the season as the Aggies crushed Louisiana Tech, 16-0. The win improved Simon’s record to 9-1 for the season. It is the second time this season Simon has earned the award, having been honored for the week of April 13-19.
Simon and his New Mexico State teammates open WAC Tournament play in Hawaii, Thursday, May 21st.

Lassen High School Baseball Postponed Yet Again

For the third time in five days, the Lassen High Grizzly baseball teams final game of the regular season has been postponed. Tuesday’s, (5/05) already rescheduled home game between the Grizzlies and Central Valley High School has now been moved to, Wednesday, May 6th, at Memorial Park at 4:45 p.m.
The game was originally scheduled to be played last Friday, (5/01) but May rains in northeastern California have made conditions unplayable at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca.
The latest postponement pushes the start of the playoffs back as well. The seeding committee was scheduled to meet Tuesday evening, (5/05), but the postponement (and others), does not allow the final playoff points to be tallied. The North Section baseball playoffs will now begin, Tuesday, May 12th.
The Lassen High softball team did travel Tuesday, (5/05) to Yreka for a Northern Athletic League game against the Yreka Miners.

Lassen-Central Valley Postponed Again

The high school baseball and softball games between Lassen and Central Valley scheduled for Monday, May 4th, have been postponed for the second time in four days. 

The games were originally scheduled to be played Friday, (5/01) in Susanville, Ca. but were postponed due to rain. The Lassen Grizzly baseball team will now face Central Valley, Tuesday, May 5th, at Memorial Park. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. It will be the final regular season game for Lassen.
The Lassen ladies make up there game with Central Valley, Friday, May 8th, at the Lassen College Softball Complex. The Lady Grizzlies (19-9-2, 6-1 in the NAL) will travel to Yreka High School, Tuesday, May 5th, and host Corning High, Thursday, May 7th.

Lassen High Baseball and Softball Games Rained Out

The Lassen High School baseball and softball games, scheduled for Friday, May 1st, have been postponed due to weather.
Both Lassen teams were scheduled to play home games against the Central Valley Falcons. The games have been re-scheduled for Monday, May 4th. The Grizzly baseball game will start at 3:15 p.m. at Memorial Park. The Lassen High ladies (19-9-2) will begin at 3:15 p.m. at the Lassen College Softball Complex.
Monday’s baseball game will be the final regular season contest for Lassen, (9-11).

Barnes Gem Leads Grizzlies Past Anderson

Lassen High junior Brian Barnes allowed just two Anderson hits while striking out six to lead the Grizzlies to a Northern Athletic League win over the visiting Cubs, Tuesday, (4/28) at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca.

Lassen – 11
Anderson – 1
Lassen’s Derek Dennis was 3 x 3 with three RBI. Loren Rainey was 3 x 4. The win pushed the Grizzlies above .500 in the NAL at 5-4. Lassen is 9-11 overall. Lassen wraps up the regular season, Friday, May 1st, against Central Valley High. The game will be played at Memorial Park.

Lassen-West Valley Softball Showdown Postponed

Friday’s, (4/24) Northern Athletic League softball game between Lassen High School and West Valley High has been postponed due to the weather conditions.

The first place battle had been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Lassen College Softball Complex. No make up date has been announced, but you’ll find out first when it is, right here at the Lassen Sports Network. 
Entering play today, Lassen (4-1) was one game back of first place West Valley (5-0) in the NAL standings. West Valley defeated Lassen 6-5 in their first match-up, (4/08).
At this time, the baseball game between Lassen and West Valley at West Valley High School, (4/24) will be played as scheduled.

Corning Pounds Lassen at Memorial Park

The Lassen High Grizzlies were gracious hosts to the Corning Cardinals in Northern Athletic League baseball action, Tuesday, (3/21) at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca.

Corning – 10
Lassen – 0
Corning’s Tanner McIntyre allowed just two Lassen hits to earn the win. The Grizzlies fall to 6-11 on the season, (3-4 in the NAL). Lassen will travel to West Valley High School for a showdown with the Eagles, Friday, April 24th.

Lassen High Baseball Team Squanders Big Lead, Loses to West Valley

The Lassen Grizzly baseball team took a 5-o lead into the fifth inning of Friday’s (3/27) Northern Athletic League contest with West Valley High School, but the Grizzlies could not close the deal.
Lassen allowed eight runs over the final three innings and West Valley went home with an 8-6 NAL win over the Grizzlies.

West Valley – 8
Lassen – 6
Starting pitcher, Loren Rainey was 3 x 4 with three RBI. The loss drops Lassen to 2-1 in conference play. 
The Grizzlies next play at Anderson High School, Tuesday, March 31st.

Monday Morning Weekend Update

Lots of local baseball and softball, Saturday, (3/21) and for better or worse (weather-wise), most of it was played here in Susanville. Here are the reports from a cold blustery day in the ‘ville.

Game 1

Lassen – 6
Fernley – 5
Lassen’s Kylie Polan hit a home run. Natalie Yonan was 2 x 2.

Game 2
(3/21) at Riverside Park (Tournament Semi-final)

Chico – 5
Lassen – 3
Polan had three hits to lead the Grizzlies.
Lassen’s Jennifer Williams and Ashley Novasad were both selected to the All-Tournament team. Lassen wraps up the tournament with a season record of 6-4-2. The Grizzlies travel to Sparks (Nv.) High School for a doubleheader, Tuesday, March 24.
NOTE: We’ve got to come up with a better name for the tournament before next years event.

The Lady Cougars snapped a seven game losing skid with their Golden Valley Conference sweep of College of the Redwoods. Lassen is next scheduled to play at Feather River College, Wednesday, March 25th.

We’re Back, Sort Of…

Our apologies for the last few days, the sports director here at the Lassen Sports Network now has certain body parts that are held together with plates, rods and screws.

Lassen’s Mariah Hicks= 2 x 3, Keli Williams= 2 RBI.
The Grizzlies scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score but Red Bluff scored a single run in the eighth to win it. Lassen is now 4-1-2 on the season.
The Grizzlies host the Lassen High Varsity Tournament that begins this morning, Friday, (3/20). The tournament features Lassen and nine visiting schools. Games will be played at the Lassen College Softball Complex and at both Riverside Park fields. Lassen’s first game is scheduled  for 10:45 a.m. at Lassen College against Silver Sage H.S.
