A First for LHS Softballers

The Lassen High School softball team traveled to Cottonwood, Ca. (4/01) for their Northern Athletic League opener with arch rival West Valley. At the end of the day, the Lassen ladies had accomplished something they had been unable to do in years past.

Busy Weekend for Lassen High Softball

The Lassen varsity and junior varsity softball teams both competed in tournament play this past weekend, (3/26-27) in Redding, (Ca.)

Varsity Results (Friday 3/26)
Lassen – 8
Corvallis (Or.) – 0
Taylor Waddel
allowed just one hit to earn the win. Offensively, Kelli Williams was two for two with a double.
Chico – 6
Lassen – 0
Lassen sophomore Natalie Yonan was 2 for 2.
Lassen – 5
Gridley – 1
Yonan was 2 for 4 with Haylee Shaffer contributing a pair of RBI. Ashley Novosad picked up the win. 

Saturday (3/27)
Lassen – 6
Crescent Valley (Or.) – 1
Becky McConnel
was four for four with a home run, double and four RBI.
Lassen – 7
Mt. Shasta – 3
Lassen scored four runs in the seventh inning to earn the win. Yonan, Novosad, Williams and Amanda Lynn, were all two for four.
Red Bluff – 1
Lassen – 0
Lassen falls to 0-3 on the year against the Spartans.
The Lassen ladies (7-6) open Northern Athletic League play Thursday, April 1st, at arch rival West Valley, (5-1-1, 2-0 in NAL).

Opening Weekend for Lassen High Softballers Washed Out

The Lassen High School varsity softball team was scheduled to open the 2010 season, Thursday, (3/11) at Orland High, then participate in the Colusa Tournament the following Friday and Saturday, (3/12 & 3/13).
All of the games have been cancelled/postponed due the possibility of inclement weather in the forecast.
 
The Lady Grizzlies are now scheduled to open the season, Thursday, March 18th, against Red Bluff High School at the Lassen College Softball Complex. March 19th & 20th, Lassen will host the Lassen Invitational Tournament.
No make-up dates for the washed out weekend have been announced.

Lassen College to Host Softball Camp

The Lassen College softball program will be hosting a youth softball camp June 22nd-24th.
The camp is open to players age 5-13 and will be run from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. each of the three days. Lassen College and Lassen High School players and coaches, will be providing instruction in a variety of areas, including; hitting, fielding, pitching, base-running and more. Games will be played each day of the camp as well.
Cost of the camp is just $50.00 and includes a T-shirt for all of the participants. For more information, contact Lassen College head coach Glen Yonan at (530) 251-8815.

Paradise Defeats Lassen in CIF Softball Championship

Lassen High Lady Grizzlies (23-9-2) faced top ranked Paradise High School (21-8) in Paradise, Ca. Saturday, May 16th. Final score of the contest was Paradise 5 Lassen 0 as the Bobcats were crowned the Division 3, North Section softball champs.

Lady Grizzlies Advance to Softball Title Game

The Lassen High Lady Grizzly softball team defeated Las Plumas High School, Tuesday, (5/12) in the Division III North Section semi-finals in Oroville, Ca.

. “Great, great, great pitching performance by Ashley Novosad.” Said Lassen head coach Paul Moore following the game.
Lassen scored first in the second inning as Alex Henry drove in Natalie Yonan on a perfect squeeze play to give the Lady Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. Lassen extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the seventh with Jennifer Williams and Novosad driving in the runs. Las Plumas threatened with a two out run in the bottom of the inning but Novosad and the Lassen defense closed the door on the Thunderbirds. “It was a great defensive performance by the Grizzlies.” Noted Moore.
Lassen (23-9-2) will face Paradise High School (21-8) in the section championship game, Saturday, May 16th, in Paradise. Expected start time is 12:00 p.m. Paradise defeated West Valley 5-1 in Tuesdays other semi-final contest.
This will be the second meeting of the year between the rival schools. Paradise defeated Lassen 3-0 back on March 27th.

Lady Grizzlies Dominate Corning in NAL Softball

The Lassen High School softball team improved to 21-9-2 on the season with a home victory over Corning High School, Thursday, (5/07) at the Lassen College Softball Complex.  

Lassen – 13
Corning – 2

. Lassen freshman, Natalie Yonan was 4 x 4 with four RBI. Ashley Novosad hit a pair of triples and drove in four runs for the Lady Grizzlies. “We only batted four times,” said Lassen head coach, Paul Moore, “and we had our best offensive approach of the year.” (The game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings). Lassen, (8-1 in the Northern Athletic League), can clinch at least a tie for the conference championship with a win in their regular season finale, Friday, May 8th, against Central Valley High School.
Friday’s game is set to start at 4:00 p.m. at the Lassen College Softball Complex.

Lassen High Ladies Pick Up 20th Victory

Led by the clutch hitting and pitching of Ashley Novosad, the Lassen High School softball team improved to 20-9-2 on the season, defeating the Yreka Miners in an Northern Athletic League showdown, Tuesday (5/05), in Yreka, Ca. 

Lassen – 7
Yreka – 4
Novasad’s two-rbi single in the sixth inning gave Lassen a 5-4 lead. Novosad also pitched two innings of shut-out relief to earn the win, and help the Lady Grizzlies improve to 7-1 in the NAL.
Lassen’s Natalie Yonan was 3 x 3, while Rosie Dean was 2 x 4 with an RBI. 
Lassen next faces Corning, Thursday, May 7th, at the Lassen College Softball Complex.

Lassen High School Baseball Postponed Yet Again

For the third time in five days, the Lassen High Grizzly baseball teams final game of the regular season has been postponed. Tuesday’s, (5/05) already rescheduled home game between the Grizzlies and Central Valley High School has now been moved to, Wednesday, May 6th, at Memorial Park at 4:45 p.m.
The game was originally scheduled to be played last Friday, (5/01) but May rains in northeastern California have made conditions unplayable at Memorial Park in Susanville, Ca.
The latest postponement pushes the start of the playoffs back as well. The seeding committee was scheduled to meet Tuesday evening, (5/05), but the postponement (and others), does not allow the final playoff points to be tallied. The North Section baseball playoffs will now begin, Tuesday, May 12th.
The Lassen High softball team did travel Tuesday, (5/05) to Yreka for a Northern Athletic League game against the Yreka Miners.

Lassen-Central Valley Postponed Again

The high school baseball and softball games between Lassen and Central Valley scheduled for Monday, May 4th, have been postponed for the second time in four days. 

The games were originally scheduled to be played Friday, (5/01) in Susanville, Ca. but were postponed due to rain. The Lassen Grizzly baseball team will now face Central Valley, Tuesday, May 5th, at Memorial Park. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. It will be the final regular season game for Lassen.
The Lassen ladies make up there game with Central Valley, Friday, May 8th, at the Lassen College Softball Complex. The Lady Grizzlies (19-9-2, 6-1 in the NAL) will travel to Yreka High School, Tuesday, May 5th, and host Corning High, Thursday, May 7th.
