The Lassen High soccer teams (boys & girls), were scheduled to play, Thursday, (12/17), at Riverside Park in Susanville, Ca. But a strange thing happened…
As originally reported on Lassen Sports Network.com, the scheduled matches between Lassen and Oroville High School were in jeapardy of being postponed or cancelled due to heavy snow accumulations at Riverside Park, but the decision was made to play. Or was it?
Lassen head boys soccer coach, Dennis Michaels explains what happened Thursday afternoon at Riverside Park. (Because I certainly can’t).

Lassen High to Host Oroville at Riverside Park
The Lassen High School soccer teams will host Oroville High in non-conference action today (12/17) at Riverside Park in Susanville.
There was concern early in the week that the field conditions at Riverside Park would not be playable due to heavy snow accumulations from the previous weekend’s winter storms, but thanks to some hard work and warmer temperatures, the matches will take place.
The Lassen ladies (1-0) will start the doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Lassen boys (0-1) at 3:30 p.m.

Back in the radio days, we used to play a game called, “Did they win or did they lose.” We would judge by listening to the first part of the messages left by various coaches when they reported their scores. I think this one, featuring Lassen head coach Dennis Michaels, will be pretty easy. Click to listen.

Lassen High Soccer Teams to Host Playoff Openers, Tuesday, Feb. 24th.
The Lassen High Grizzly and Lady Grizzly soccer teams will host CIF semi-final playoff games, Tuesday, Feb. 24th at Riverside Park in Susanville, Ca.
The playoff doubleheader will begin with the Lassen ladies facing familiar foe, West Valley High School. This will be the fourth meeting of the year between the two schools. Lassen was 1-0-2 against the Eagles in the regular season. Lassen, who has not played since defeating Central Valley on Feb. 5th, have a 9-1-3 record for the year while West Valley is 11-1-2, including a 3-0 victory over Corning in the teams first round playoff game, (2/20).
The Lassen boys will host Wheatland High School in Tuesday’s second game. The Grizzlies are 8-3-2 and, as with the Lassen ladies, have not played a match since the teams regular season finale against Central Valley nearly three weeks ago. Wheatland (4-8-2) advanced to the semi-finals with a 5-2 upset win over third seeded Las Plumas, (2/20). This will be the first “official” meeting of the year between the two teams. The two squads did play a “mini-match” at a pre-season Jamboree. While the final score of that contest is not an official result, Wheatland did defeat the Grizzlies.

Lassen High School Soccer Playoff Picture Set, Sort Of…
While the CIF playoff point standings are not the “official” CIF playoff seedings, they are a good indicator of what to expect when the seedings do, officially come out.
According to the latest CIF high school soccer playoff points, both the Lassen Grizzly boys and girls teams will be second seeds in the upcoming playoffs. That earns each team a first round bye. Under these rankings, Lassen will open the playoffs with semi-final games at Riverside Park, Tuesday, Feb. 24th.
Girls Playoff Point Standings
1. Sutter – 13-0-0
2. Lassen – 9-1-3
3. West Valley – 11-1-2
4. Las Plumas – 10-2-0
5. Wheatland – 4-4-2
6. Corning – 7-6-1
According to Lassen boys head coach Dennis Michaels, if these point standings represent the actual playoff seedings, the Lassen girls will face the winner of the West Valley – Corning match.
Boys Playoff Point Standings
1. Corning – 14-0-1
2. Lassen – 8-3-2
3. Las Plumas – 7-4-2
4. West Valley – 7-4-3
