Lassen Volleyball Comes Up Short at Anderson

Lassen traveled to Anderson High School, Tuesday night, (11/2). It was a long nite with every team playing the maximum games, but coming up short in every instance.
Varsity- 27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-25, 9-15
Carlotta Kloppenberg had her best night with 13 kills, 6 aces, 8 digs, and 23 for 26 serving. Amanda Nelson had 2 aces, 8 kills, and 4 blocks. Megan Schaake was 19 for 20 serving with 2 aces.
We end our season in Central Valley on Thursday night, November 4th.
Freshmen lost 25-19, 18-25, 12-15
Junior Varsity lost  24-26, 26-24 , 5-15

Lassen Volleyball Team Falls to West Valley in Home Finale

West Valley was in town for our last home game and for senior night. We honored Carlotta Kloppenberg, Kaytlynn Zumpano, Kendall Sears and Amanda Nelson.
The varsity played hard and fought the entire match. they never gave up, and made the first and third games close. Kloppenberg was 12 for 12 in serving with 4 kills and 13 digs. Nelson had 4 kills, 4 blocks and 7 digs. Zumpano was 7 for 7 serving, and had 3 kills. Sears  had 2 blocks and 4 kills.
Our teams continue to get better. West Valley is one of the better volleyball programs in the section and are 1st in league in all divisions, and we held our own.
The freshmen started off the night with some exciting play, 8-25, 25-19, 8-15. Their first game was rough, but they came back to win the second and force the third game. West Valley held on for the win, but the frosh looked inspired against an undefeated Eagles squad.
The junior varsity had another close game against West Valley. Their first meeting went three games ending at 14-16, this time the match was close the whole way, 26-28, 25-17, 12-15.

Grizzly Volleyball Team Falls to Corning

The Lassen High School volleyball team traveled to Corning , Tuesday, (10/27) and came away winless.
Lassen’s varsity team lost 23-25, 12-25, 18-25, putting Lassen at 1-6 in Northern Athletic League play.
Carlotta Kloppenberg was 15 for 16 in serves with 4 aces and 3 kills for the night. Amanda Nelson had 5 blocks, 2 kills, and 1 ace, while Sara Paris had 3 kills for her best night. Jocelyn Lapthorne had 2 kills and 5 blocks to round out the scoring.
The Lassen freshmen lost 21-25 and 19-25. We played tough,but couldn’t get the lead all night. Lassen drops to 3-4.
The junior varsity teams played an exciting match. 15-25, 25-23, 14-16 were the final scores. Lassen started out slow in the first game, but in the second game, Kelci Oxford had a good run of serves and Lassen never looked back. Corning made a run at the end of the game, but Lassen held on for the win. In the third game, Lassen got behind 1-7, but kept playing. Lassen was ahead 13-11, but could not hold the lead. The Grizzly jv’s are now 2-5.
Thursday, October 29th, Lassen plays West Valley in our last home game. It will be Seniors night. We look forward to an exciting match.

Lassen High Volleyball Drops Hard Fought Match To Central Valley

We played Central Valley High School, Thursday (10/15), and went up against the best player in the league, in Central Valley’s Brie Mackie, and the second place team.
The varsity held their own in an exciting contest. Each game was close and it was our best effort of the season. The scores were; 21-25, 20-25, 20-25. Lassen had 22 kills and blocked very well, finishing with 11 blocks.
Carlotta Kloppenberg had a great night with 12 digs, 11 for 11 serving, and 3 kills. Amanda Nelson had 5 kills and 5 blocks. Kendall Sears had 6 kills, three aces, and 4 blocks. Jocelyn Lapthorne had 3 kills and  2 blocks. Lassen is 1-4 after the first half of play.
The Lassen jv lost in three games 19-25, 25-23 , 10-15. Lassen is 2-3 in league play.
The Grizzly freshmen lost  25-23, 25-27, 8-15. We are 3-2 in league.
We start the second half with Yreka, at home on Thursday night, October 22nd.

Lassen High Volleyball Team Wins in the “Cave”

Lassen played Anderson at home Tuesday (10/13).
The Lassen freshmen won 25-20, 25-18. They are 3-1
The Grizzly junior varsity team lost in 3 games, 16-25, 25-18, 12-15, and are now 2-2 in league.
The varsity won in five games 14-25, 25-13, 25-13, 23-25, 15-9.
We started out rough in our first game, but got into a good rhythm in the next two. We game from behind in the fourth game, but couldn’t close the deal. Finally, in the fifth game, Amanda Nelson got us started with strong serving and the team followed her lead.
Megan Schaake was 20 of 20 serving. Nelson was 22 for 24 serving with 3 aces, and 3 blocks. Kendall Sears had 4 aces, 9 kills, and 2 blocks. Carlotta Kloppenberg ended the night with 9 kills.
We play Central Valley at home on Thursday, October 15th, to finish the first half of the season. We are looking forward to a great match.

Lassen High Volleyball Falls to West Valley

We traveled to play the top team in the league and faced our toughest competition to date.
The frosh lost, 12-25, 15-25 and dropped to 2-1 in league.
The jv team played very well, 25-20, 22-25, 13-15, losing a close fought match. The teams traded points all night. Tiffany Waddell and Kelci Oxford had great nights hitting, passing and serving, and Manda Howard controlled the net with 12 blocks and several kills. They fall to 2-1 and look forward to a rematch at home in three weeks.
The varsity played hard and did not quit, losing 9-25, 18-25, 10-25. We had some good rallies and great hits from both sides. We blocked well for the night as a team with 20 blocks. Kaytlynn Zumpano had her best night with 3 kills and 8 for 9 serving. Amanda Nelson, Kendall Sears and Jocelyn Lapthorne, all did well blocking.
Next week, we play two home games against Anderson and Central Valley.

Volcanoes Down Lassen in High School Volleyball

The Lassen High School volleyball team hosted the Chester High Volcanoes in a non conference match, Wednesday night (09/16) at the “Cave.” Chester would go home with an intensely fought, four game victory.

Lassen’s Amanda Nelson led the team with 11 kills, while Lassen head coach Jeff Morrish noted the play of Sara Paris and Jocelyn Lapthorne. Megan Schaake was a perfect 27 of 27 on serves.
Lassen will travel to Red Bluff (Ca.) for tournament play September 18th  & 19th.
The Lassen junior varsity beat Chester in three games.

Lassen High Wins Volleyball Opener

The Lassen Grizzly volleyball team came from behind to defeat the Sparks High (Nv.) Railroaders in five games Wednesday (9/02) at “The Cave.” It was the season opener for the Lassen ladies.

Amanda Nelson led Lassen with 11 kills, two aces and five blocks. Carlotta Kloppenberg had seven kills, two blocks and was 20-21 on serve. ”It was a good team effort,” said Lassen head coach Jeff Morrish.
Lassen returns to action Tuesday, September 8th, when they host Portola High School.
Both the Lassen freshman and junior varsity teams were winners as well.
