Sportsmanship at it’s Finest

This story was written by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly and we at Lassen Sports Network.com felt it should be passed along to you.

Marshall Softball
Marshall softball players Antanai Coleman, left, and Taylor Stigger try on catching gear with the help of Roncalli junior varsity coach Jeff Traylor.

We live in a world where Peyton Manning walks off the Super Bowl field without shaking anybody’s hand. Where Tiger Woods leaves the Masters without a word of thanks to the fans or congratulations to the winner. Where NFL lineman Albert Haynesworth kicks a man’s helmetless head without a thought.

So if you think sportsmanship is toast, this next story is an all-you-can-eat buffet to a starving man.

It happened at a junior varsity girls’ softball game in Indianapolis this spring. After an inning and a half, Roncalli was womanhandling inner-city Marshall Community. Marshall pitchers had already walked nine Roncalli batters. The game could’ve been 50-0 with no problem.

Yes, a team that hadn’t lost a game in 2½ years, a team that was going to win in a landslide purposely offered to declare defeat. Why? Because Roncalli wanted to spend the two hours teaching the Marshall girls how to get better, not how to get humiliated.

It’s no wonder. This  … Click the headline to continue reading this LSN Story

A Christmas Song AND a Christmas Goat

We’re proud to introduce the world to “Lola the Wonder Goat.”
We came about Lola when she was four days old. Lot’s of poo & pee later, she is four months old, and wishing you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Lola Santa hat 011And today’s selection for our “25 Days of Christmas” celebaration. Yep, it’s another version of “Blue Christmas.” Because it makes me happy…

Todays Christmas Selection

We continue our “25 Days of Christmas” celebration here at Lassen Sports Network.com
I’ve said all along, the songs selected are simply songs that make me feel good. I was on the road the better portion of this Monday, and heard this song on my satellite radio. It made me happy and it helped get me home. I hope it makes you happy as well…

Enjoy, and if you have a favorite, let us know…

Another Note From My Big Sister…

Another Note From My Big Sister in Boise

By the way, my sister is a big time jock, a smart cookie, a great mom, blah-blah-blah, yada-yada-yada, and all that, but, regardless of what she may insinuate in her writings to us here at Lassen Sports Network.com, she can’t beat me, and she doesn’t know more than I do… She’s a great chick though…

I hear that Lassen High is playing our old Alma Mater this week in Anderson. I want to wish them (Lassen) well, as you speak so highly of the program and everyone involved with it. I’d be hard pressed to go against our old Cubbies, seeing as how it was just yesterday that we graduated. (She is my “big” sister).
BTW, how did you graduate…by the hair of your chinny-chin-chin?
From,
The smart one in the family. (Other than Dad, of course, because I know he’ll be reading this.)

You can, of course hear the afore-mentioned Lassen vs. Anderson, North Section, semi-final football game, live right here on Lassen Sports Network.com November 20th, at 7:00 p.m. beginning with our D & L Distributing pre-game conversation with Lassen head coach Tom St. Jacques. (BTW, Big Sister, coach St. Jacques played on the “Blue Turf” at Boise St).

Frank Ernaga Scouting Report From 1958 Baseball Digest

Since we’re in the midst of the Major League Baseball playoffs, and with the World Series just around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to get nostalgic. Frank Ernaga is credited with one the most noted “first big league at bats” in baseball lore. Ernaga was born in Susanville, Ca. and resides here today.
It’s a bit fuzzy, but it is from the 1958 Baseball Digest, which is still in print today.
